North Haiti Mission was founded in 1992 when
Clint Goddard received an invitation from Rev. Verdieu LaRoche, Pastor of the
First Haitian Baptist Church in Boston, to help the needy, the sick, and the
poor, in the village of Caesse, Haiti. That same year Clint traveled to
Haiti with Pastor LaRoche to "spy out the land".
As a young boy, Pastor LaRoche, along with
his father, farmed the Caesse land, now owned by North Haiti Mission. His
vision was to use this land inherited from his parents after their death to help
educate and feed the children, care for the sick, and bring the Gospel of Jesus
Christ to all the people in this area.
Clint and his wife, Connie, agreed to help,
and were soon joined by others of like mind. They started with a handfull
of children who worshiped and studied under a palm branch-covered
pavilion. Each year teams of volunteer workers from the United States
constructed various buildings, and ministered at the mission station in Caesse.
As of March 2006
, we have more than 150 children
in our school with
7 Haitian teachers. We have clean water
now, because there are three wells on the property as of March 2002.
One is operated by a hand pump, while the other two are run by generators and
a submersible pump. Water is piped from an 500 gallon water tank to our
bathrooms and shower facilities in the dormitory. Buildings consist of a
church, school, school kitchen, utility building, dormitory with room for 27
missionaries, a food warehouse, and clinic that has now
been completed!
